Watch for a flash mob Thursday

Be on the lookout for a flash mob downtown this Valentine’s Day. One Billion Rising is a global movement to bring awareness to domestic violence. On Thursday, people all over will use social media, events and live performances to spread their message.
In Rochester, V-Day Rochester, Rape Crisis Service and other programs are sponsoring the flash mob (at noon at Washington Square Park) and other events.
At 7 p.m. at Skylark Bar and Lounge, 40 S. Union St., will be an event that includes a spoken word concert featuring live performances by Jenna Weintraub, Amanda Ashley and Teressa Wilcox, says local organizer Kelly Sowers.
“We hope to provide education to the community. It is such a global problem that we just hope to bring some awareness and support to Rochester,” Sowers says.
One Billion Rising is an event designed by Eve Ensler, who wrote The Vagina Monologues, to bring more strength as V-Day hits its 15th anniversary. V-Day promotes events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
