Bandaloop, Dave Barry coming to 2013 Fringe
03:16 PM, Jun 10, 2013
Aerial dance troupe Bandaloop will again be dancing off the side of the One HSBC Plaza as part of the First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival.
Bandaloop’s show on Sept. 20 will be part of Friday on the Fringe, a free night of shows based at Manhattan Square Park. A performance on Sept. 21 will be more family-oriented.
Bandaloop performances will be free.
Headliners at the Eastman Theatre will be comedian Marc Maron on Sept. 21 ($20 to $55) and humorist and Pulitzer Prize winner Dave Barry on Sept. 27 ($20 to $65). Tickets are available at the theater box office, Wegmans, (585) 454-2100 or rochesterfringe.com.
Other shows will be announced on July 17 .
The festival drew more than 25,000 in 2012, its inaugural year. More than 10,000 came downtown to see Bandaloop.
The festival’s footprint this year will change. It will expand into the parking lot on the northwest corner of Main and Gibbs streets much like the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival does.
In the parking lot will be a Spiegeltent. These tents made of wood, canvas and velvet and decorated with stained glass and mirrors were used as traveling dance halls.
The Spiegeltents are popular at festivals in Europe and Australia, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where Rochester’s producer, Erica Fee, worked. This will be the first time that a North American festival has used one of these historic tents.
