This is the season for audience outreach for many of Rochester’s arts organizations. This means they are looking more closely at how they put together shows and educational programs.

It also means pie.

During performances of two plays, audience members will be invited onstage for a drink and some pie.

Geva Theatre Center opens its Mainstage season with the 30th anniversary production of Pump Boys and Dinettes on Sept. 10. As the name implies, the musical partly takes place in a diner. So before the show and during intermission, patrons will be able to buy drinks and pie.

Then in March, the touring company of Once comes to the Auditorium Theatre as part of the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s season. This award-winning production takes place in a pub. Again, patrons will be able to make their way onstage for a slice.

No word yet on flavors.
