Geneseo HS, Eastman grads among Grammy nominees

Mike Brown runs Temperamental Recordings in a renovated church in Groveland (between Geneseo and Dansville) and on Sunday he competes for a Grammy against the team that put together Jay-Z’s Magna Carta … Holy Grail and David Bowie’s The Next Day in best recording package category.
Basically, Brown and company are nominated for the artwork for Automatic Music Can Be Fun, an album Brown made with his high school buddy Zac Decamp as the duo Geneseo (where they grew up). Annie Stoll is main designer, with main artist Brian Grunert of Buffalo, who won a 2004 Grammy in the same category for Ani DiFranco’s Evolve.
Several Eastman School of Music grads also are among the nominations as well, including:
The David Slonaker Big Band for best large jazz ensemble album Intrada.
Scott Healy for best instrumental composition for “Koko on the Boulevard” on the Scott Healy Ensemble’s Hudson City Suite.
Maria Schneider who previously won a Grammy for her composition “Cerulean Skies” and another for best large jazz ensemble recording for Concert in the Garden for best contemporary classical composition of “Winter Morning Walks” from the album of the same name. The album is a collaboration with Dawn Upshaw (who received a best classical vocal solo nomination for it), the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Pulitzer Prize winner and U.S. poet laureate Ted Kooser. Winter Morning Walks also received a best engineered album nomination.
John Hollenbeck, winner of a 2010 ASCAP Jazz Vanguard Award, for best instrumental arrangement accompanying vocalists for “The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress” on Songs I Like A Lot.
Bob Ludwig as mastering engineer for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, up for album of the year; “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams, up for record of the year; and the Rolling Stones’ Charlie Is My Darling
Ireland 1965, up for best historical album. He also is nominated for Annie Up and Random Access Memories in the best engineered album (non-classical) category.
Martha Cluver and Eric Dudley are members of vocal group Roomful of Teeth, up for best chamber music/small ensemble performance.
