As an alternative, critic Jack Garner recommends:
SLEEPER. This is a busy time for Woody Allen DVD fans. No less than three Allen films arrived on Blu-ray over the past week his latest comedy, To Rome With Love; his much-loved Oscar winner, Hannah and Her Sisters; and Sleeper, Woody’s wacky early comedy about the future. In it, he stars as a clarinet player and health food store operator who is time-traveled to the future to help fight an oppressive government. But he also makes some wild discoveries, including that Orgasmatron booths have replaced conventional sex and that decadent foods like fudge and cream pies are healthy. As a bonus, Allen plays clarinet with his traditional-style musician friends on the soundtrack. The film is also the first in which Allen directed Diane Keaton. (She and Allen co-starred a year earlier in Play It Again, Sam, directed by Herbert Ross.)
Director: Allen.
Cast: Allen, Keaton, John Beck.
Jack’s rating: 10.
