1. Colorful kites of all shapes and sizes will soar and swoop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday during Kite Flight at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte. There will be kite-flying demonstrations, a children’s kite-making workshop, entertainment and public kite flying. Admission is free.

2. Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble performs at The College at Brockport’s Hartwell Dance Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15; $10 for seniors; $8 for students. Call (585) 395-2787.

3. For Those Who Served, an exhibit by photographer John Retallack honoring past and present members of our nation’s military, opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and will remain on display through May 31 in the A.R.T.S. Gallery at Aviv Café, Bethel Christian Fellowship. Admission is free. Go to bethelcf.com. The show is part of the city-wide First Friday gallery night. .

4. The Rochester Comedy Festival begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial. Performers include Sheryl Underwood, Arnez J, Tony Rock, Don “D.C.” Curry and Tommy Davidson. Tickets ($51.75, $59.75 and $82.75) are available by calling (800) 745-3000.

5. Imagine RIT, a campus-wide Innovation and Creativity Festival, runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta. The free event includes interactive presentations, hands-on demonstrations, displays and research projects set up throughout campus, as well as music, performances, inflatables, games and other activities.

6. Les Misérables, a musical based on Victor Hugo’s epic tale, opens Tuesday at Rochester’s Auditorium Theatre. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. May 7 through 9; 8 p.m. May 10; 2 and 8 p.m. May 11; and 1 and 6:30 p.m. May 12. Tickets start at $37.50. Call (800) 745-3000.

7. Bollywood Dance Mania presents “Decades of Bollywood: A Tribute to the Legends,” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the India Community Center. Admission is $15 and $25.

8. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s Community Chorus Concert, featuring a 200-voice choir, performs at 8 p.m. Saturday in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Guest conductor Eric Townell will present classical favorites such as Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” and Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” as well as popular and patriotic standards. 9. Funny Girl, a musical loosely based on the early career of Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice (portrayed by Brynn Lucas), opens Saturday at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester in Brighton.
