The Wiggles, an Australian fab four for the preschool set, now has a female among its members. Emma Watkins takes the role of yellow (and has already attracted a Mini-Emma Army).

The group retooled after original members Greg Page, Jeff Fatt and Murray Cook announced their retirement, and new members Watkins, Red Wiggle Simon Pryce and Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie joined the last tour as Wiggles in Training.

Blue Wiggle Anthony Field is now the veteran among the Crayola band of fun. New episodes of the show started this week.

Essentially we’re all role models for boys and girls, but it’s really nice that girls (now) have a choice, I guess,” Watkins says.

With their peppy dancing, waggling fingers, exaggerated facial expressions and maniacally catchy songs like “Hot Potato” and “Fruit Salad,” The Wiggles emerged 22 years ago and became a sensation with a TV show, sold 23 million DVDs and videos and sold out 12 days of concerts at Madison Square Garden.
