Got time? Warner Bros. releases a 100-film box set

A few years ago Janus Films did something cool, but a little insane: The distributor issued a special anniversary box set of 50 of its best films. It retailed for $850 and included gems like The 400 Blows, Pandora’s Box and Seven Samurai.
This month Warner Bros. borrows that idea by releasing Best of Warner Bros., a box set that includes 100 films. (A Blu-ray edition includes 50 films.) While the pictures are more mainstream than the ones in the Janus set, they include a ton of must-own classics, like Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Rebel Without a Cause and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
The set encompasses films released from 1927 (The Jazz Singer) to 2010 (Inception). Some of the more recent films in the box include The Dark Knight, The Matrix and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. A full list is posted on www.bestofwb.com.
If your personal DVD collection is seriously lacking or you need to get a jumpstart on Blu-ray discs, you may want to consider one of these sets. Both retail for $600, but Amazon offers a hefty discount.
The set goes on sale Jan. 29, but you can pre-order it now.
