Kristen Wiig, a Brighton High School graduate, has joined the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues — the sequel to the 2004 comedy starring Will Ferrell.
Wiig was born in Canandaigua and moved to Rochester, where she attended Brighton High School and graduated in 1991. She is best known for the many roles she played on Saturday Night Live and as the star of the 2011 comedy, Bridesmaids.
Director Adam McKay confirmed the news on Twitter. “Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!” he wrote Monday night.
The movie is scheduled for release Dec. 20. Stars from the original, including Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, David Koechner and Steve Carell, are all slated to return.
