Last weekend I went to see Silver Linings Playbook, which is nominated for eight Oscars. I wasn’t sure if the flick would be up my alley — everything I’d seen made it appear kind of hokey and melodramatic — but I ended up really enjoying it.

Silver Linings is well cast with a moving story that made my fellow moviegoers lean forward in their seats. If you also liked the film, consider watching a new 30-minute special feature that delves into why and how it was made.

The clip contains interviews with the cast, but the most insight comes from director David O. Russell and Matthew Quick, who wrote the book on which the film is based. Russell talks about how he could relate, since his son has a mood disorder. (We have a more detailed article about that today.) Robert De Niro tears up and says the material hit close to home for him, too.

Silver Linings Playbook is still in theaters. A DVD release date has not been announced.
