Sally Field’s best role may be as a mom, as she proved on the way to the Oscars red carpet Sunday while dressed in a stunning, see-through red gown.

Two-time Oscar winner Field, nominated again for her role as Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln, was joined on the red carpet by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, her young co-star playing son Robert Todd Lincoln.

But before they got there, he needed help fixing his tie, so Field helped him out, a moment captured forever on Gordon-Levitt’s Facebook page and a zillion retweeted photos.

Awww!” tweeted Huffington Post and a host of others. “So Nora Walker!” tweeted others, referring to Field’s recent role as the mom on TV drama Brothers & Sisters. Gordon-Levitt also is a former TV star, playing a teenage alien on Third Rock From the Sun.

Field, who also was accompanied by one of her sons, Sam Greisman, wore a sheer red Valentino dress with a long train of feathery ruffles.

I wore red because I like it,” she said. “It’s very Mary-like,” she said, referring to the dress-mad wife of the 16th president.
