Cool stuff on DVD today: 'The Master' and more
05:00 AM, Feb 26, 2013
We don’t have a huge list of releases today, but I bet there’s at least one you wanna check out:
Release o’ the week: The Master. The film is Paul Thomas Anderson’s most experimental work, so be prepared. However, the stunning (and Oscar-nominated) performances, particularly the one from Joaquin Phoenix as a distressed war veteran, are some of the best you’ll see all year. Bonus features include a John Huston documentary that inspired the movie.
- The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Go ahead, indulge in a little teen vampire porn. I won’t judge.
- How to Survive a Plague. The Oscar-nominated doc examines the people who “stopped AIDS from becoming a death sentence.”
- Chicken With Plums. Persepolis author/filmmaker Marjane Satrapi adapts another one of her books for the big screen.
- This Is Not a Film. Filmmaker Jafar Panahi secretly documents his house arrest in Tehran.
Also out: Chasing Mavericks, Freaky Deaky, Holy Motors, Law & Order: The Twelfth Year, The Loneliest Planet, Chronicle of a Summer, Sansho the Baliff, The Client List: The Complete First Season

Next week: Oscar nominee Wreck-It Ralph arrives.
