A new movie streaming service called YEAH! combines classic flicks with original content./

In this age of short attention spans, our thirst for entertainment often is followed by an inevitable restlessness. Even I’ll admit that while I’m watching TV, unless it’s super-compelling, I’m probably simultaneously tooling around on my iPhone or iPad.

A new movie service is hoping to snag viewers with exclusive content and interactivity. YEAH!, a product from AMC Networks, streams classic films alongside new interviews with filmmakers/actors, fun facts, quizzes and the like.

This video explains the concept further, though watch out for some spicy language:

So far YEAH!’s enhanced films include Clerks (with a two-hour new Kevin Smith interview), Jackie Brown (with Pam Grier and Robert Forster interviews), Natural Born Killers (with Juliette Lewis and Tom Sizemore) and several more. They cost $4.99 for a 48-hour rental period.

I like the concept, though the question is whether the content will be worth it. The interviews are essential — much more so than quizzes and pop-up facts — so if YEAH! can persuade interesting people to participate, it has a shot at reeling me in.

Right now YEAH! rentals are available at www.yeahtv.com, with an iPad app launching this summer. Among the films that will be added in the coming months are Superman: The Movie, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (!), Dirty Dancing and Watchmen.

Below, Smith discusses YEAH! and his contributions to Clerks. Again, beware of that NSFW language!
