A Boston Marathon bombing suspect still on the loose in the city is affecting the filming of director David O. Russell’s latest movie.
The manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, has forced Sony Pictures to cancel a day of work on American Hustle due to the city’s lockdown, according to the studio. Filming began last month in Boston, but the movie was shooting in Worchester, Mass., on Monday when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
“We did cease production today due to events unfolding in the city and will resume as scheduled on Monday,” a Sony spokesman told USA TODAY.
The other suspect, brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a shootout with police early Friday morning.
Based on the FBI’s ABSCAM sting operation in the late 1970s and early ’80s, American Hustle reteams Russell with his Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro, and features Christian Bale playing a con artist forced to work with a federal agent (Cooper). The cast also includes Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams and Louis C.K.
Cooper visited bombing survivor Jeffrey Bauman Jr., who lost both of his legs below the knee, on Thursday at Boston Medical Center. Bauman helped Boston police to identify one of the two bombing suspects.
