Today marks what would’ve been Saul Bass’ 93rd birthday.

If you’ve visited the Google homepage today, you’ve already seen its elaborate and lovely tribute to the artist, whose signature title sequences grace Psycho, Vertigo, The Man with the Golden Arm, Anatomy of a Murder and many other unforgettable films.

Google’s “Doodle” is actually a long video created by artist Matthew Cruickshank:

Today the Guardian honors Bass with a list of his 10 best title sequences.

I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares,” Bass says in this interview. (He died in 1996.) That’s a humble statement from a pioneer I’m sure we’ll be celebrating for many decades to come.
