Movie actor Denzel Washington was beaming Monday in his starring role as proud dad.

Washington, 58, wife Pauletta and other family members gathered at the 257th commencement exercises for the 2013 class of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where his son, Malcolm, 22, was graduating.

Malcolm is following in dad’s footsteps with a degree in film studies. The younger Washington played on the Ivy League school’s basketball team as a student.

The elder Washington frequently went to the school to watch his son play and also was a commencement speaker at the school in 2011. In his speech to the graduating class, the award-winning actor said, “I’ve found that nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks. Nothing.”
