The most recent burning 50 Shades of Grey casting question has been solved — Aaron Taylor-Johnson will not play the lead role of Christian Grey. Or any role in the movie for that matter.

Aaron is not doing 50 Shades of Grey,” his publicist said in a statement to USA TODAY Thursday.

The speculation swirled after his wife and sometime film collaborator, Sam Taylor-Wood, was chosen to direct the film, taking one of the hottest directing jobs in Hollywood.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 23, the Kick Ass and Anna Karenina star, is very much an actor on the rise, so many pundits speculated that he would come on board.

The two met while filming 2009’s Nowhere Boy, which she directed and where he portrayed a young John Lennon. They were married in 2012 despite more than a two decade age gap (Sam Taylor-Johnson is 46) and have two children.

The trade website Indiewire.com quotes a WME agent saying that Aaron Taylor-Johnson “is going to be the supportive father by staying at home this fall to take care of the couple’s two kids” while Sam Taylor-Johnson shoots the movie.
