Stephenie Meyer pays a big compliment to Diane Kruger in this exclusive DVD extra of The Host.

Meyer says that Kruger is ‘pleasantly terrifying’ as the Seeker, one of the top aliens who have taken over the Earth and inhabited human bodies in the sci-fi tale.

To back it up, Kruger is shown kicking down a door as she tracks down a human who has managed to fight off the alien body invasion (Saoirse Ronan).

Meyer and company did not kick down the door in her first foray into science fiction. The Host sputtered at the box office in March, especially following the stupendous success of the Twilight films.

But it was hard not to love the futuristic look of the film, much of it dictated by director Andrew Niccol. There are the white clothes worn by the aliens and the bright blue contact lens (all discussed in this clip).

But the great achievement might be the bright chrome that covered everything from the helicopters to the Lotus cars used in the film.

One of the most exciting images that (director Andy Niccol) showed me at the start was the chrome car. And then he told me that every other vehicle the Seekers drive is going to be chrome as well,” says production designer Andy Nicholson. “It’s great for us, especially in the desert. You get a fantastic reflection of the blue sky and the ground around it. They are just stunning vehicles.”

The Host comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD July 9
