You may have read about the small, poverty-stricken town of Medora, Ind., in the news. A few years ago, the New York Times ran a memorable piece about the local basketball team, which suffered a 0-22 season and struggled to win just one game.
Our longtime pal Davy Rothbart, founder of Found magazine, saw the story and was inspired to make a movie about the team. Funded with the help of Kickstarter and co-directed by Rothbart and Andrew Cohn, Medora follows a group of kids from tough backgrounds who come together in hopes of experiencing victory on the court.
The trailer for Medora made my eyes water:
The movie is currently featured at various film festivals, including the Bend Film Festival and the New Orleans Film Festival. Yesterday Davy tweeted that he’s looking for some independently run theaters where it may be screened in the coming weeks/months.
If you have connections to a place where Medora could screen (and I know some of you do!), get in touch with the filmmakers. Keep track of screenings and more at medorafilm.com, @MedoraFilm and @DavyRothbart.
