Steve Martin among headliners announced for jazz fest

The first two headliners for the 2014 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival were announced Tuesday morning.

Bluegrass group Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, featuring Edie Brickell, and R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire are the first two of six headliners to be announced by festival producers John Nugent and Marc Iacona. The annual music festival runs from June 20 to 28.

Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, who performed two sold-out shows at the festival in 2012, will go on stage Saturday, June 21.

Earth, Wind & Fire is scheduled to perform on Friday, June, 27.

Both shows will be held at 8 p.m. at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in Rochester.

Tickets for Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers range from $65 to $105, plus fees. Earth, Wind & Fire tickets range from $85 to $155, plus fees.

Tickets go on sale Friday and will be available at 10 a.m. at www.rochesterjazz.com, by phone (585) 454-2060 or in the Kodak Hall Oval Lobby Box Office (on Friday only).

Steve Martin, a well known actor and comedian, plays the banjo with The Steep Canyon Rangers, a band he met at a party in North Carolina. Texas native Edie Brickell, Steve Martin and the band have collaborated to create their their latest bluegrass album Love Has Come for You, released last year.

A powerhouse group in the 70s, Earth, Wind & Fire continues to tour and make music. The group’s latest album Now, Then and Forever, was released in the fall.

The annual nine-day festival, held in downtown Rochester, features more than 300 concerts, including more than 70 free shows, at 19 venues. The 2013 festival drew more than 195,000 people.
